1983 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER HJ47

The Land Cruiser has long held a cult following in Australia, aided by the reputation of rugged design and unbeatable reliability that continues to this day. The first Land Cruiser was produced in 1951, with a design close to both the Land Rover and the Willys Jeep. It became a staple in commercial use as it evolved from year to year, in a period when 4-wheel-drive vehicles were seen only as business vehicles and not for personal use. Variants of the Land Cruiser popular in Australia include the short-wheelbase ‘J40’, the medium-size ‘J43’, and the long wheel-base ‘J45’. The ‘J47’, as on display is an evolution of the ‘J45’, featuring a 2H diesel engine and being produced from 1981-1984. The vehicle on display has been restored, with some very slight modifications enhancing both the cosmetic appeal and the unbeatable off-road capability.
