1976 ROLLS-ROYCE PHANTOM VI

From 1968 to 1990, one of the most luxurious cars in the world rolled off the production line—the Rolls-Royce Phantom VI. Only 374 of them were ever made, which made them incredibly rare. This special car was known for its style, comfort, and class. In fact, it was the last Rolls-Royce ever built with a separate chassis, a traditional way of making cars.

Phantom VIs were used by some of the most important people in the world—diplomats, heads of state, and even Queen Elizabeth II.

The Phantom VI you see here was delivered brand new to the Government of New South Wales. It was used by Sir Roden Cutler, who was Governor of NSW from 1966 to 1981. He was well respected, known for being both dedicated and down-to-earth.

Before becoming Governor, Sir Roden served in World War II, where he showed incredible bravery. He was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest military honour in the Commonwealth, for his courage in battle.

This Rolls-Royce was more than just a way to get around—it was designed to impress. It came with a glass partition between the driver and the passengers, an intercom system for communication, and even a cocktail bar in the back for entertaining.

There’s a nice personal touch too: it’s said that Lady Helen Cutler, Sir Roden’s wife, chose the elegant colour of the car herself.

Today, this Phantom VI stands proudly on display—a reminder of style, history, and the people who helped shape Australia.
