Geoff Smedley (1931–2021) was an influential Australian motor racing engineer and co-founder of the National Automobile Museum of Tasmania (NAMT). In 1987, he and his wife Sylvia established the museum in Launceston, showcasing rare cars and restoration work. Originally located in the Waverley Woollen Mills, it moved to Cimitiere Street in 1996 and later to Invermay in 2019. Known for preparing some of Australia’s fastest racing cars in the 1960s, Geoff was inducted into the Tasmanian Motorsport Hall of Fame in 2013. His 2018 autobiography, It’s A Smedley Thing – You Wouldn’t Understand, captures his rich career and life. Geoff passed away on December 30, 2021, leaving a lasting legacy in motorsport and automotive preservation.
