Brian Raymond Mathews OAM

Brian Raymond Mathews OAM was a respected figure, deeply involved in Tasmania’s car culture and the National Automobile Museum of Tasmania. Born in Tasmania in 1940, he pursued studies in industrial chemistry and worked for companies like Kelsall and Kemp and Gillette, eventually advancing to roles such as President and Chairman of Gillette Indonesia and the Philippines.
His passion for vintage automobiles was lifelong; he was an active member of multiple car clubs, including the Veteran Car Club of Australia (Tasmania) and the Jaguar Car Club of Tasmania. As a founding member and inaugural Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the National Automobile Museum of Tasmania, he played a key role in its establishment and continued growth, leaving a lasting impact on the automotive community.
In 2009, he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his contributions to the community and to motoring clubs, a testament to his dedication and influence in preserving and celebrating Tasmania's motoring history.
