1964 HOLDEN EH PREMIER

Released in August 1963 the EH Holden was billed as the most dramatic model change since Holden’s inception in 1948.  The EH was marketed with power swept styling and a red carpet ride but by far the biggest improvement was the introduction of the now famous red motor, available initially in 149 and 179 cubic inch sizes.  The engine was produced in Holden’s all new Fishermans Bend plant which featured manufacturing techniques and equipment never before seen in Australia.  The 149 cu.in. engine produced 33% and the 179 a huge 53% more power than the previous grey motor. In an 18 month period more than 250,000 EH Holden’s were sold. The car on display was sold new in Sydney and features many period accessories, rear venetian, sun visor, locking fuel cap, boot lifting trim, diamond dot radio, chrome bonnet fins, headlight stone guards, seatbelts and wheel trims.

1964 HOLDEN EH SPECIAL

The car on display was purchased as a restorer’s dream. It was an original automatic “Special” sedan finished in Barwon Blue with a white roof and blue interior. The car was built by Kane and Candace at KC Kustom in Launceston as a clean family cruiser retaining the bench seat and auto transmission. A 202 cubic inch motor is fitted with a Yella Terra head, triple SU carburettors, electronic ignition, HQ race cam, X2 cast headers and a 2.5” stainless exhaust system. The EH is now finished in Nardo Grey with a Schwartz black roof. Neal 3-piece wheels are now fitted. The engine bay has been shaved as has the fuel filler and exhaust cut out. The interior has been re-trimmed in custom white leather with retractable seatbelts. The car is lowered with a HR Holden disc brake front end, a narrowed diff, custom wiring  and a Classic Auto Sound stereo.
